Environmental Compliance and Assurance Co-ordinator
£35,530 - £41,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 6A)
Remote, with occasional travel to our Manchester city centre head office (around 6 to 8 times a year)

We're looking for an Environmental Compliance and Assurance Co-ordinator to join our Property team and help drive forward our sustainability ambitions. This is a great opportunity to shape how we manage environmental compliance across our trading and non-trading estate, ensuring we meet our legal responsibilities while supporting Co-op's commitment to creating a more sustainable future.

Why this role matters

Protecting the environment is a key priority for Co-op, and this role will play an important part in turning our ambitions into action. As an Environmental Compliance Co-ordinator, you'll champion environmental compliance agenda across Property, helping colleagues understand environmental risks, improve compliance standards, and embed best practice into everyday decision-making. Working closely with our Sustainability, Risk and Safety teams, you'll help build the frameworks, assurance plans and ways of working that protect our business, support continuous improvement, and create lasting positive impact.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain environmental compliance frameworks, policies, procedures and assurance plans across the Property function
• Champion environmental compliance and sustainability best practice across Co-op Property teams
• Create and manage environmental compliance roadmaps, working with the Head of RHSE to review and update priorities as needed
• Monitor environmental and sustainability risks across our property portfolio and recommend appropriate actions
• Build strong relationships with colleagues across Property, Sustainability, Risk and Safety teams to support effective risk management
• Provide expert advice and practical guidance on environmental compliance matters, balancing risk with commercial considerations
• Act as a trusted critical friend, constructively challenging decisions and escalating concerns where appropriate
• Support and lead investigations into environmental compliance breaches, working with external authorities where required
• Horizon scan for emerging environmental legislation and risks, helping the business prepare for future requirements
• Provide assurance and reporting to leadership teams on the effectiveness of environmental compliance and management arrangements

What you'll bring

• We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:
• Environmental compliance experience, with a genuine passion for driving positive environmental outcomes
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence, challenge and build credibility at all levels
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify issues, assess risks and develop practical solutions
• Experience in risk management, auditing, assurance or continuous improvement activities
• Strong project delivery skills, with the ability to plan, organise and deliver work to agreed timescales while maintaining accurate records

where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive: An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)

• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
• A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
• 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
