We’re looking for an Asbestos Compliance Coordinator to join our growing compliance team and help ensure our Co-op remains fully compliant with asbestos regulations. This role is pivotal in maintaining safe, healthy workplaces for colleagues across the business and optimising relationships with key contractors.

Why this role matters
You’ll act as the link between Co-op and our licensed asbestos removal contractors, making sure work is carried out safely, compliantly, and in line with business objectives. You’ll need to be an expert communicator, confident in managing challenging conversations when agreements aren’t met. What you’ll do
• Manage relationships with key suppliers, ensuring service level agreements are met
• Oversee a significant budget and monitor spend for day-to-day reactive works
• Review specification documents and ensure compliance standards are upheld
• Participate in asbestos working groups, sharing insight and knowledge with colleagues
• Coordinate licensed asbestos removal contractors and monitor programme delivery
• Support ad-hoc project work and contribute to process improvements
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to build strong relationships
• Track supply chain performance, spotting opportunities to improve efficiency
• Undertake reviews of internal asbestos information ensuring it is fir for purpose and can support multiple projects
This role would suit people who have
• Experience working with licensed asbestos removal contractors
• A good understanding of the food retail industry
• In-depth knowledge of compliance management and familiarity with systems like Verisae or Compliance 365
• A BOHS P405 qualification (or willingness to work towards this)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
• Calmness under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUPs
