Head of Threat and Vulnerability Management
Up to £100,000 plus private healthcare, company car or car allowance and more great benefits (Work Level 4)
Manchester city centre - in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home and the office around once a week (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

We’re open to applications from people who may require flexible working arrangements. There’ll be an opportunity to discuss your flexible working requirements during the interview process, and at offer stage.

We’re reshaping our Digital, Technology and Data function for the future, creating new opportunities, strengthening our capability, and building clearer, more resilient ways of working so we can deliver even better services for our Co-op, our colleagues, members and customers.

We’re looking for a Head of Threat and Vulnerability Management to join our Cyber Security team and help us protect our Co op, our colleagues and our customers from evolving cyber threats. In this role, you’ll lead how we identify, assess and respond to security risks across our technology estate, making sure we stay resilient and secure while supporting the business to deliver for our member-owners, customers and colleagues.

Why this role matters

Cyber threats continue to grow in pace and complexity, and this role sits at the centre of how we stay one step ahead. You’ll shape and lead our approach to threat intelligence and vulnerability management, influencing decisions at a senior level and driving meaningful improvements across the organisation. This is a great opportunity to build and evolve a best-in-class capability, combining strong technical foundations with innovation and new approaches to exposure management, and where you’ll have the space to bring vision, imagination and new ideas to how we manage risk.

What you’ll do

•    Lead and develop our threat and vulnerability management strategy, aligning it with business priorities
•    Oversee threat intelligence, ensuring we proactively identify and respond to emerging risks
•    Manage vulnerability scanning, prioritisation and remediation across our systems and platforms
•    Work with technology and business teams to reduce risks and improve security posture
•    Provide clear reporting and insight to senior stakeholders on threats, risks and actions
•    Lead and support incident response activity where threats or vulnerabilities are exploited
•    Build and develop a high-performing team, creating a strong culture of accountability and continuous improvement, with a focus on innovation and raising the bar for vulnerability and threat practices
•    Partner with internal and external stakeholders to enhance our overall cyber resilience

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

•    Proven experience leading threat intelligence and vulnerability management in a complex organisation
•    Good understanding of current cyber threats, attack methods and security controls
•    Experience of developing and delivering security strategies and roadmaps
•    Ability to prioritise and manage risk in a practical, business-focused way
•    Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior level
•    Experience leading and developing teams, with a focus on performance and growth
•    Clear communication skills, able to explain technical risks in plain English
•    A proactive, collaborative approach with a focus on continuous improvement
•    Vision and curiosity to drive innovation and continuous improvement

We know some people may hesitate to apply if they don’t meet every requirement. At Co-op, we’re committed to building diverse and inclusive teams, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly, we still encourage you to apply.

Why Co-op?

At Co-op, we’re owned by our members. And because we’re owned by you, we can do right by you. So when you join us, you’re not just taking a job, you’re joining a movement. We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:

•    An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
•    28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
•    A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
•    Private healthcare
•    Company car or £6,000 car allowance
•    Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
•    30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
•    Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
•    Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
•    24/7 colleague support service
•    Training and support for your development and career progression
•    Cycle-to-work scheme
