We’re looking for a Finance Risk & Control Manager to join us and play a leading role in developing and leading risk management within our Group Finance function. This is a senior, standalone role with real scope to shape, embed and evolve our risk and control framework. You’ll act as the subject matter expert for finance risk and governance, working closely with senior finance leaders and key stakeholders across the business to ensure we operate with the right level of control, transparency and accountability.

Why this role matters

In this role, you’ll raise the bar across Group Finance, making sure risk and governance frameworks are robust, consistently applied and fit for a complex, evolving organisation. You’ll be a trusted partner to senior leaders and provide a key link into our Group Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit teams, as well as managing the delegated authority framework for the business and leading data protection activity within finance. With high visibility, autonomy and influence, this role offers the opportunity to create lasting impact and shape the future of risk and governance for Finance at the Co op.

What you’ll do

•    Own, develop and embed the Group Finance Risk and Control Framework, ensuring key risks are identified, managed, monitored and reported effectively
•    Work closely with senior finance leaders to land and embed controls in a practical, proportionate way across teams and activities
•    Chair and manage the Finance Risk and Governance Committee, setting the agenda, driving actions and ensuring outcomes are delivered
•    Act as the finance risk lead for wider Group governance, including engagement with Group Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit team as well as supporting the Co-op Group Business Risk and Audit Committee with relevant matters
•    Maintain and evolve the Co-op Group Delegated Authority Limits framework, working with business units to ensure appropriate governance and oversight
•    Provide first line advice and support on finance risk and control matters, covering both business-as-usual activity and major programmes such as finance transformation
•    Serve as the data governance lead for Group Finance, ensuring data is managed, protected and governed in line with Group standards
•    Operate with a high degree of autonomy, identifying opportunities to strengthen controls, improve ways of working and enhance overall governance

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

•    A recognised accountancy qualification, with significant experience in finance risk, control and governance
•    Strong experience designing, embedding or operating risk and control frameworks within a finance environment
•    Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the confidence to work with senior leaders and influence at executive level
•    The ability to work autonomously, set direction and manage a complex workload across multiple stakeholders
•    A practical, solutions‑focused mindset, with strong problem‑solving skills
•    Experience working with audit, assurance or regulatory requirements in a large or complex organisation
•    Sector experience in retail or a similarly complex commercial environment (desirable)
•    A collaborative approach, with the confidence to act as a gatekeeper while supporting teams to do the right thing
