Engineering Manager
£65,000 to £75,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 5)
Manchester city centre (hybrid / remote working, splitting your time between home working, and coming into our Manchester office around once a month)

We’re reshaping our Digital, Technology and Data function for the future, creating new opportunities, strengthening our capability, and building clearer, more resilient ways of working so we can deliver even better services for our Co-op, our colleagues, members and customers.

As part of this, we’re looking for Engineering Managers to join our team. In this role, you’ll lead, coach, and support skilled engineers across a range of teams and technical areas, building strong relationships with these colleagues as you go. You’ll play a big part in developing engineering capability, nurturing career growth, and working alongside leaders from across Co-op to build a strong, connected engineering community.

What you’ll do
•    Line manage up to 12 multidiscipline engineers and quality coaches across 1-2 teams, supporting their wellbeing and career development
•    Be responsible for the technical capability of your team (e.g., code quality, standards adherence, deployment health, and on-call response)
•    Create a healthy, inclusive team environment where engineers can thrive
•    Collaborate and build meaningful working relationships with Product Managers, Delivery Managers, Principal Engineers and third-party partners to support with engineering activities
•    Support engineering recruitment activities including interviews, assessments, hiring decisions and onboarding

What you’ll bring
We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. We’re open to applications from people with a range of backgrounds, as long as you have the following skills, we’d love to hear from you:
•    Experience managing, coaching or mentoring a team 
•    Experience supporting the development of large, multi-disciplinary software teams to help them to perform at their best   
•    Experience working as a software/platform/application engineer or in quality assurance
•    Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with teams and colleagues across the business as well as with external partners 
We’re open to flexible working arrangements, including condensed hours, shorter working days, or a 4-day week. 
You’ll also benefit from hybrid working, with occasional travel (around once a month)  to our Manchester office for team days, meetings, and events.
