Data Domain Lead
ManchesterData Domain Lead
Circa £80,000 to £110,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 4)
Manchester city centre (hybrid)
We’re open to flexible working arrangements, including condensed hours. You’ll work in a hybrid way, with travel to our Manchester office at least once per week for team days, meetings, and events.
The role partnering our Commercial and Logistics division will also require occasional travel to our depots across the UK.
About the role
We’re looking for two Data Domain Leads to join our Digital technology & data team in Manchester. In this role, you’ll lead a portfolio of data projects, products, and services from early ideas through to delivery and ongoing improvement.
One of these roles acts as the bridge between our data teams and the newly formed Commercial and Logistics division. The other connects our data teams with the Food Retail division. Whichever role you’re in, you’ll work closely with senior leaders, directors, and executive colleagues to turn business needs into data-led solutions.
Why this role matters
We’re in an exciting period of growth at Co-op. With a refreshed structure and a brand-new Commercial and Logistics division, we’re setting out to develop new opportunities for our Co-op stores, franchise partners, independent societies, and Nisa. And data will be right at the heart of how we make that happen.
We’ve already got the tools: a cutting-edge cloud data platform built on Databricks and Azure, and Power BI reporting. We’ve also got the talent: brilliant teams working across data science, AI, and business intelligence. Now we need to unlock the full value of our data to support our growth plans. That’s where you come in.
What you’ll do
- Partner with exec-level colleagues to understand their goals and explore how data can help
- Shape our data strategy alongside our Data Director
- Lead strategic data projects that support our Commercial and Logistics division
- Build business cases and secure funding for the work needed
- Manage budgets and prioritise spend based on business needs
- Own and deliver the data roadmap for your domain
- Run regular feedback loops to measure impact and spot opportunities to improve
- Manage risks and escalate to our Board risk committee when necessary
- Line manage up to 10 data colleagues, supporting their development and growth
What you’ll bring
- Experience leading technology, data product, or data platform teams
- Confidence managing budgets and prioritising spend across large roadmaps
- Knowledge of how data is used in supply chain, logistics, or FMCG environments
- Strong leadership skills, with experience coaching teams in agile, lean, and waterfall ways of working
- The ability to lead teams through the full project lifecycle
- Great problem-solving and collaboration skills
- A good understanding of the latest trends and innovations in data technology
