Accountancy Administrator
£29,000 full time equivalent (£23,200 pro-rata) plus great benefits (Work level 6B)
Hybrid/Remote – during training, you’ll be working between your home and our Scunthorpe office, after this you’ll be able to be based at home with a weekly office day.
This role is 30 hours a week (0.8 full time equivalent). We’re open to discussing how this time is split within the week in order to fit round your personal needs.

Are you looking to take your first step into the world of finance? We’re currently looking for an Accountancy Administrator to join our Co-op Wholesale team in an entry-level role, ideal for those eager to gain experience in finance and accounting.

Since 1977, we’ve championed independent retailers to thrive with Nisa – and now, we’re entering a bold new chapter as Co-op Wholesale. It’s the same spirit, with bigger ambition: bringing the power of Co-op to more local businesses than ever. And with that, exciting opportunities are on the rise, like this one.

In this role, you’ll contribute to core bookkeeping activities, support the profitability of Co-op Wholesale through the accrual and invoicing of customer subscription income and assist the Financial Control team with various ad-hoc responsibilities - gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced financial environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your finance skills and build a strong foundation for a career in accountancy. If you're detail-oriented, eager to learn, and looking to grow within the industry, this is the role for you.

What you’ll do

• Review and investigate adjustments to help correct trading margin.
• Assist in preparing and processing non-standard rebate adjustments to ensure accurate invoicing.
• Help prepare and submit HMRC duty drawback claims, gathering the necessary supporting documents.
• Reconcile excise duty rates within core systems and flag any discrepancies for further investigation.
• Support the reconciliation of excise duty payments to HMRC submissions.
• Assist with bookkeeping tasks for Making A Difference Locally (MADL).
• Help prepare invoices and journal entries for customer annual subscription fees.
• Assist with daily bank reconciliations and cash postings to support the Cash Supervisor.
• Provide general support to the Financial Control reporting team as needed.

This role would suit people who have

• Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to work cohesively with a supportive team
• Previous accounting experience or an interest in the industry
• Experience of core Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel with the desire to build on skills on this platform
• Good awareness and ability to meet deadlines
• Great attention to detail

• A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
