We’re reshaping our Digital, Technology & Data function for the future, creating new opportunities, strengthening our capability, and building clearer, more resilient ways of working so we can deliver even better services for our Co-op, our colleagues, members and customers.
We're looking for a Technology & Data Risk Manager to join our Digital Technology & Data Risk Team and help us make sure technology and data risks are understood, managed and reported effectively across our Co-op. You'll work closely with senior leaders across our technology teams, helping them identify potential risks, strengthen controls and make informed decisions that support our strategy, members and colleagues.
Why this role matters
As our Technology & Data Risk Manager, you'll be at the heart of helping us manage the risks that come with delivering and maintaining technology at scale. This is a great opportunity to work with senior stakeholders across the business, influence important decisions and help shape a strong, proactive risk culture. You'll have the chance to translate complex technical issues into meaningful business insight, helping leaders focus on what matters most and driving positive outcomes across our Digital Technology & Data function.
What you’ll do
• Partner with technology leaders, including Heads of Product and Heads of Platform, to identify, assess and manage operational risks
• Lead the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process, ensuring risks are managed in line with Group frameworks and policies
• Produce high-quality risk reporting that supports decision making and drives action where needed
• Translate technical and operational issues into clear business risks and impacts for a range of stakeholders
• Provide expert guidance on risk management frameworks, controls and governance requirements
• Support audit activity, acting as a key contact and helping ensure actions are completed to the required standard
• Build strong relationships across Digital Technology & Data and promote a positive risk culture
• Challenge and support stakeholders at all levels to strengthen risk management practices and improve outcomes
What you’ll bring
We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:
• Experience working in risk management, ideally within a technology, digital, data or operational environment
• A strong understanding of enterprise risk management principles and how risk impacts wider business objectives
• The ability to understand complex issues and translate them into clear, practical business risks and actions
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge senior leaders when needed
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and use sound judgement
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to prioritise attention on the risks that matter most
• Professional risk management qualifications or relevant certifications would be an advantage, but practical experience is equally valued
We know some people may hesitate to apply if they don’t meet every requirement. At Co-op, we’re committed to building diverse and inclusive teams, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly, we still encourage you to apply.

• An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
• A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• Private healthcare
• Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
• 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
• Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
