Job description

Legal Assistant (Civil Litigation)
£24,570 plus benefits (Work Level 6C) 
Manchester city centre, in this role you’ll work in hybrid way working 4 days a week in the office and working 1 day a week (find out more about our hybrid working policy at jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Civil Litigation department. At Co-op Legal Services, our aim is to offer accessible legal advice and support without the jargon. Our customers rate us too, and we strive to consistently provide excellent customer service at a time when people are often at their most vulnerable.

In this role, you’ll work on a wide variety of both pre-litigated & litigated claims. We’ll look to you to support the teams in handling their cases and be comfortable liaising with a variety of internal colleagues, along with external partners too. It’s a big job with a lot of responsibility. What you’ll do

•    Assist and support in the efficient running of the Civil Litigation department 
•    Make initial contact with new clients through incoming web forms and allocate to the right team 
•    Open and close files, apply for records and review documents
•    Listen to client recordings and accurately transcribe 
•    Work flexibly across the department, supporting across various teams and picking up ad hoc work where required 
•    Prepare case bundles, with all system notes and evidence
•    Update the case management system and maintain spreadsheets 
•    Build relationships with internal colleagues and external parties
•    Assist in collecting management information

This role would suit people who have

•    Previous legal experience or experience in professional services
•    Used a legal case management system
•    The ability to organise and prioritise work to meet our service level agreements (SLA’s) 
•    Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
•    The ability to manage multiple pieces of work and have good time management skills
•    Clear and confident communication skills; you can speak appropriately to the right audience and have an excellent telephone manner

CV Shortlisting If you pass the assessment your CV will be reviewed by our Talent Acquisition team. If you meet the essential criteria for the role your CV will be sent through to the hiring manager to review.

Interview If you're selected for interview, you'll be sent an email for you to choose a date and time for your interview - but if you can't make it don't worry, you can reschedule your interview online up to 48 hours before your interview is due, or you can reach out to our Talent Acquisition team and we can try and accommodate a new time or date. Before your interview, we’ll send you a really helpful guide on how best to prepare, so nothing on the day should surprise you, and most importantly what proof you need to bring to prove your right to work in the UK.

Your decision If you’re successful at your interview, you’ll receive a phone call from the hiring manager you met to talk about your job offer. If you accept, we’ll then send your offer online via an email. Before anything can be processed, we'll need you to accept this offer online. This will start your journey into our Co-op.
