In this role, you’ll manage and mentor a group of up to 15 of our engineering colleagues – coaching them in both their technical and professional development. We’ll support your development in role, as well as providing you with the opportunity to progress your career with a business that puts digital at the heart of its strategy. So, if you have a strong technical background, a natural ability to guide and support others, and a desire to step into a leadership role, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll do
• Manage and mentor a group of up to 15 engineers at all levels, from different specialties, across multiple teams
• Help to grow and continuously develop our community of engineers
• Coach and guide our engineers in their personal and professional development
• Coach and guide our engineers from a technical perspective, using your knowledge and experience to help them develop their skills
• Build meaningful relationships and work collaboratively with other engineering managers, technical leaders, and product managers across Co-op
• Support our recruitment activity; getting involved in interviews, assessments, onboarding etc.
• Work closely with external partners and be an advocate for our engineering community, collaborating with industry organisations and events
This role would suit people who have
• An aspiration to join an engineering leadership team
• Leadership skills, with experience of coaching or managing large, multi-disciplinary teams, and providing pastoral care to colleagues in a matrix environment
• A good knowledge of, and experience with, at least one programming language (e.g. Java, C#, Python, JavaScript etc.)
• Alternatively, knowledge in infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform, Puppet, Chef) or cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Alternatively, knowledge and experience from a quality assurance background (e.g. quality coaching, agile testing)
• Great communication and relationship-building skills
Please note that we are unable to offer visa sponsorship currently for these roles.
Why Co-op?
If you’ve got the skills and experience we’re looking for, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services). You’ll also get:
• Private healthcare
• A company car or car allowance
• An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
• A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
• Coaching and training to support your career development
• Wagestream – a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
