Platform Engineer – Azure
£60,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 6A)
United Kingdom (Remote)

This is a UK remote-first role, with an option to work from our Manchester office for those who choose to. You may be asked to occasionally attend meetings in Manchester (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy)

We’re open to applications from people who may need flexible working arrangements. There’ll be an opportunity to discuss your flexible working arrangements during the interview process and at offer stage.

Please be aware Co-op does not offer visa sponsorship for this opportunity

We’re looking for a Platform Engineer to join our wider Digital Technology & Data team. In this role, you’ll build solutions to business problems and provide colleagues with guidance around automation, tooling, and cloud infrastructure. We’ll look to you to build and maintain the platforms that make our food stores as simple as possible to operate for our colleagues; helping them to deliver the best experience possible for our customers and member-owners.

We have some really exciting developments planned within this area, including a new suite of web applications for smarter stock management, as well as the roll-out of electronic shelf edge labels – and you’ll play a big part in this!

At Co-op, collaboration is part of who we are. We work in small, multi-disciplinary, and agile teams. We run our own delivery and deployments, and often use pair and ensemble programming. We’ll provide you with career coaching, and we run communities of practice to support our colleagues’ learning and development. Our infrastructure is a healthy mix of IaaS, SaaS, and we make the most of infrastructure as code. In this role you’ll use Terraform to define the infrastructure, and you’ll also get to work with Azure DevOps and Gitlab.

What you’ll do

  • Work within product teams to effectively deliver infrastructure and support for our websites and APIs
  • Transform technical requirements into an effective toolchain that enables iterative product delivery
  • Optimise deployment strategies for products, making sure they’re repeatable, scalable, and highly available
  • Play a major role in the overall solution design
  • Share your platform-related knowledge and skills with colleagues across our Engineering teams

This role would suit people who have

  • Significant experience in a hands-on Platform Engineering role
  • Experience working in an agile/DevOps environment
  • A solid understanding of the full web technology stack (i.e. networking, CDNs, HTTPS)
  • The ability to adapt and learn new technologies
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to translate technical language for non-technical audiences
  • Good relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and challenge people, of all levels of seniority, inclusively

We know that some candidates are less likely to apply for a role if they don’t meet all the criteria in the job description. At Co-op, we're committed to building a diverse and inclusive working environment, so if you'd like to apply for this role but your experience doesn't quite meet every point, we'd still encourage you to apply. You may be just the right candidate for the job or other roles we have available.

Why Co-op?

If you’ve got the skills and experience we’re looking for, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services). You’ll also get:

  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 in line with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • Coaching and training to support your career development
  • Wagestream – a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • Grocery Aid – 24/7 access to a range of emotional, financial, and practical support services for you and your family
