Fire Protection Engineer

£60,000 to £70,000 plus great benefits including private healthcare, 28 days holiday, a pension with up to 10% employer contributions and a performance related bonus (Work Level 5).

Manchester City Centre, hybrid 

Full UK Driving License required

We’re looking for a Fire Protection Engineer to join our property team here at Co-op. In this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home, the office and visiting our sites nationwide (find out more about our hybrid working policy at colleagues.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy). 

As a Fire Protection Engineer, you’ll be part of a team who are responsible for design standards making sure they meet the right specifications and business obligations to maintain the Co-op estate. You’ll be involved in the capital investment for new space and refurbishments of up to £200 million a year. We’ll look to you to be our inhouse subject matter expert, making sure that we are always legally compliant in the fire category. This is a great time to join us here at Co-op, as we grow, you’ll join 400 construction professionals and specialists who make sure all our properties are safe and compliant for our colleagues and customers. 

What you’ll do

  • Lead and innovate in the Fire category across property supporting all business units investment priorities
  • Manage professional supply chain and contractors with access to professional services
  • Manage and design model properties and look for continual improvement opportunities 
  • Keep up to date with any lawful or building regulation changes to make sure our design standard and ways of working are updated accordingly
  • Be responsible for the management of operational procedures with regular routine management peer review, including passive and active means of fire protection
  • Look for continual improvements and provide technical advice in our supplier relationship management framework
  • Lead a varied supply chain of consultants, contractors, and specialists in Fire category 
  • Be future focussed and proactive to make a category that leads on best practise, is commercially optimised, and has a successful supply chain 

This role would suit people who have

  • A degree in either engineering or building surveying 
  • Experience in technical specification writing
  • Experience as a technical specialist when looking at requirements for contractors and supply chain
  • A strong design background with a good track record in refurbishment and maintenance activities in retail, commercial and industrial sectors
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills with the ability to articulate technical language in a clear and simple way for all audiences to understand
