UX Designer
£40,800 to £48,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 6A)
Manchester City Centre (Hybrid)
We’re open to applications from people who may require flexible working arrangements. There’ll be an opportunity to discuss your flexible working requirements during the interview process, and at offer stage.
We’re looking for a UX Designer to join our Digital Technology & Data team in Manchester. In this role you’ll help us to design clear, accessible, and engaging digital products and services used by more than 40,000 of our store colleagues. This is a hybrid opportunity, so you’ll be able to work from home most of the time but come into the office now and then to connect with the team in person (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).
As a UX Designer at Co-op, you’ll be sensitive to the needs of our store colleague users, and design digital products and services that help them to thrive in their roles. You’ll get to work on some exciting projects, such as our self-serve product, Smart Hub. This will make it easier for our store colleagues to monitor tasks, view notifications, and complete check-ins via their handheld devices. If you have strong design skills and value accessibility, we can offer you the chance to build a career with a business that’s using digital to make a real difference to our colleagues, customers, and member-owners.
What you’ll do
- Optimise user journeys based on accessibility, user needs, and commercial goals
- Collaborate with our wider Digital Technology & Data teams (e.g., Engineering, Product, and Delivery) to improve the usability and accessibility of our digital products and services
- Create sketched, wireframes, and high-quality designs in Figma
- Use product analytics, measurement, feedback, and user insights to support decision-making
- Confidently communicate design decisions to other colleagues across Co-op
- Support our user researchers with designing and carrying out both moderated and unmoderated tests
- Help to develop a design system that makes sure everything we build for our store colleagues is consistent, easy to use, and does what it needs to
This role would suit people who have
- Experience as a UX Designer
- Experience using tools (e.g., Figma and Illustrator) and design systems, and translating ideas into high quality designs
- Experience carrying-out usability research tasks, and facilitating inclusive feedback sessions with design and non-design colleagues
- An understanding of design accessibility and an interest in developing your awareness of the topic
- Good communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work inclusively
We understand that not everyone will meet every requirement listed in our job description. At Co-op, we’re committed to building an inclusive working environment. So, if you’re interested in this role but your experience doesn’t tick every box, we still encourage you to apply. You might be exactly who we’re looking for – either for this role or another opportunity.
Why Co-op?
If you’ve got the skills and experience, we’re looking for, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services). You’ll also get a range of benefits aligned to your home role, which include:
- An annual incentive scheme (based on personal and business performance)
- 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
- A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
- Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
- Coaching and training to support your career development
- Wagestream – a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
- Grocery Aid – 24/7 access to a range of emotional, financial, and practical support services for you and your family
