Payments Team Leader – Source to pay
£38,000 - £41,000 plus excellent benefits (Work Level 6A) 
Manchester city centre, hybrid working

We're looking for a Payments Team Leader within our wider Co-op Business Services (CBS) organisation. CBS is made up of a number of diverse teams dedicated to delivering high-quality, reliable and cost-effective business services across our Co-op. You’ll play a key role in helping CBS to support and realise our group vision of ‘co-operating to build more value for member-owners every day’. 

This team is responsible for managing payments of around £9.7 billion to thousands of our suppliers every year, and it’ll be up to you to help us make sure we’re doing this right, and that payments are made on time, every time. It’s an important role to make sure every penny of our members’ money is properly accounted for.

In this role, you’ll lead the Payments Team in an inclusive way, making sure payments and forecasting are made accurately and to agreed timescales whilst supporting on SAP implementation. We’ll look to you to drive team goals and KPIs, and make sure we’re meeting GSCOP requirements. What you’ll do

  • Lead an experienced team to enable the efficient and timely processing of payments made both through the system and manually
  • Support the team with cash forecasting and look for ways to continuously improve this process to better assist the business in understanding Co-op’s true cash position 
  • Make sure the controls the team work with mitigate any risks
  • Build strong relationships with the wider teams across the business, keeping up to date of any changes in the business and communicating these effectively to the team 
  • Lead on continuous improvement initiatives to make sure the Payments Team is working in the most efficient way and is providing an excellent service
  • Monitor the team KPIs and provide insights on performance against these to the Payments Manager 
  • Work closely with our finance and commercial teams, alongside the Payments Manager to optimise our cash and resolve payment issues

This role would suit people who have

  • Previous experience of leading an Accounts Payable team
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high-volume workflow
  • Strong relationship building and influencing skills with internal and external partners at all levels
  • Good analytical and Excel skills
  • A passion for continuous improvement
