Lead Service Designer
Up to £60,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 5)
12-month fixed-term contract/secondment (parental cover)
Manchester city centre (hybrid)

We’re open to applications from people who may require flexible working arrangements. There’ll be an opportunity to discuss your flexible working requirements during the interview process, and at offer stage.

We’re looking for a Lead Service Designer to join our wider Digital Technology & Data team at Co-op on a 12-month fixed-term contract in Manchester. In this role, you’ll play a key part in creating products and services that provide value to our members. This is a hybrid opportunity, with occasional in-person team meetings in the office (find out more about our hybrid working policy at https://jobs.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

As a Lead Service Designer at Co-op, you’ll help to lead and shape service design, working closely with our product teams to make sense of complex systems.  If you’re experienced at aligning user experience with business objectives, this is a great chance for you to help us use digital technologies to make a real difference.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the strategic and ongoing improvement of services used by our customers and members
  • Research, design, and test end-to-end services
  • Create service journey and process maps
  • Champion a data-informed approach to service design by collaborating across teams to identify and prioritise appropriate metrics, ensuring services deliver measurable value
  • Make accessibility considerations a priority in your service design decision-making
  • Collaborate with Delivery and Engineering colleagues and look for ways to continuously improve our ways of working
  • Help to establish a service design community of practice that meets regularly to share knowledge and experience

This role would suit people who have

  • Experience working as a Service Designer within an agile, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching other Designers and supporting their development
  • Experience using measurement frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of service design methods
  • The ability to use research to analyse user behaviour and motivations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to share technical information with non-technical audiences
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and challenge people inclusively

We know that some candidates are less likely to apply for a role if they don’t meet all the criteria in the job description. At Co-op, we're committed to building a diverse and inclusive working environment, so if you'd like to apply for this role but your experience doesn't quite meet every point, we'd still encourage you to apply. You may be just the right candidate for the job or other roles we have available.

Why Co-op?

If you’ve got the skills and experience we’re looking for, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services). You’ll also get:

  • Private healthcare
  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
  • Coaching and training to support your career development
  • Wagestream – a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • Grocery Aid – 24/7 access to a range of emotional, financial, and practical support services for you and your family
