Engineering Design & Performance Manager (Mechanical)
£55,000 - £65,000 plus benefits (Work Level 5)
Manchester city centre

We’re looking for an engineering design and performance manager to provide technical guidance in respect of mechanical building engineering services to our diverse property portfolio. You’ll advise on engineering strategy, maintenance, design standards, technical specifications and compliance obligations across the Coop. If you can bring Coop the technical expertise we need, we can offer you the chance to develop your career with a business that drives innovation and continual improvement.

As an engineering design and performance manager, you’ll be the subject matter expert (SME) in mechanical building engineering services with a solid understanding of design standards and legal compliance.  You will provide technical leadership across Coop property and will drive innovation into our estate. It’s a big job, as we have a complex and diverse estate, but it’s a challenge in which you can make a huge impact.

What you’ll do

• Help us keep our engineering standards up to scratch – reviewing, updating and managing them across the business and provide technical assurance from a compliance perspective against coop legal obligations.
• Get stuck into technical sign-off for projects, making sure everything meets our engineering standards.
• Spot trends and opportunities to improve how we do things, especially in our investment workstreams.
• Lead on technical matters internally, supporting cost-saving initiatives by coordinating value engineering efforts
• Support property delivery teams, visiting construction sites to carry out quality inspections.
• Drive change by exploring new ideas and innovations – from supplier visits to market research – helping us move towards our sustainability and net zero goals
• Build your profile and relationships across the business – we’ll give you the time and autonomy to grow and develop in your own way

This role would suit people who have

• A degree in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline and either a Chartered Engineer or leading towards ECUK registration
• Detailed knowledge of legal compliance, ideally in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, LEV, Gas and water hygiene (P901, P903 preferred)
• Extensive knowledge of current Building Regulations, mechanical systems, design, specification, and maintenance requirements
• Great communication and engagement skills, with the ability to forge meaningful relationships with both internal and external partners
• Proven background working with large and complex organisations with a diverse property portfolio

Why Co-op?

If you have the skills that we need, we can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services).

• An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
• A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• Private healthcare
• Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
• Coaching and training to support your career development
• Wagestream app – giving you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn
