Customs Manager

£50,000 to £60,000 plus great benefits (Work Level 5) 

Manchester city centre, in this role you’ll work in a hybrid way splitting your time between home and the office at least once a week (find out more about our hybrid working policy at colleagues.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy) 

We’re looking for a Customs Manager to join our Supply Chain and Logistics team. In this role we’ll look to you to manage all customs related activity, making sure all imports and exports by Co-op and Nisa are compliant with regulations. You’ll make sure the business is operationally ready to adopt any changes required by future legislative change, and that regulatory measures are always met. You’ll lead a team of analysts and administrators in this fast-paced role, sharing your knowledge and successfully delivering priorities across Supply Chain and Logistics. 

What you’ll do

  • Scan for legislative change, that will impact imports and exports as well as customs clearance, interpret it and lead a team to deliver relevant change to accommodate it 
  • Collaborate with the Co-op Public Affairs, Regulatory and Taxation teams to engage with the UK government agencies to understand and influence policy developments in relation to importing and exporting goods 
  • Work collaboratively with other business areas to drive any required business or process change due to legislative changes to make sure we remain fully customs-compliant 
  • Be aware and understand the key customs risks to the Co-op and continuously improve processes 
  • Look after improvements and management of critical master data to facilitate timely and accurate customs declarations 
  • Provide technical expertise and thought leadership in customs import and export across Co-op and Nisa 
  • Coach and develop a team of Customs Analysts whilst establishing a culture of continuous improvements and quality assurance and manage the compliance performance of Co-op and Nisa’s customs agents
  • Be responsible for Co-op and Nisa as required to make sure imports and exports are compliant

This role would suit people who have

  • Relevant experience working in a customs role, with working knowledge and understanding of EU and UK customs legislation, including Northern Ireland
  • The ability to build and develop strong relationships with both internal and external partners 
  • Experience in influencing and challenging partners to deliver change 
  • Some experience in leading a successful team
