My journey with Co-op started after I’d finished college. I’d preferred the hands-on elements of learning much more than the theoretical side, and so I knew that pursuing an apprenticeship as opposed to university would be so much better for me and my style of learning. The digital product & design apprenticeship programme at Co-op grabbed my interest instantly, as I’ve always had a keen curiosity about UX (user experience) and digital design. This has given me the opportunity to build a career in an area I’m passionate about, while following a learning approach that suits me.
I'm valued and supported by my colleagues
As soon as I saw the opportunity to join Co-op, I jumped at the chance to apply. I’ve always been aware of their strong ethics, and the amazing work they do in communities. It’s so important to me that I get to build my career within a business that shares my values and principles. Since joining Co-op, I’ve felt really valued by my colleagues, and I’ve been encouraged to take steps beyond my comfort zone to gain skills and experiences that I can take with me for the rest of my career.
There's so many amazing learning opportunities
I’ve really enjoyed my time as an apprentice at Co-op. One of my favourite things about the role so far has been the regular Community of Practice sessions that I’ve been part of, where colleagues who share a passion for a particular area of user experience, such as visual design, meet to share their knowledge and experiences. It’s been so amazing to have access to these discussions and, in terms of my own development, the insights I’ve picked up are so valuable.
Although my time as an apprentice has been filled with great moments, there’s also been some challenges that I’ve had to overcome. When I first joined Co-op, I found it difficult to balance my work and studies. However, the support I received from my manager and colleagues has been incredible, and they really helped me manage my time more effectively. I know they’re always there to support me whenever I need it, and it’s so encouraging to be surrounded by colleagues who truly care about my development.
