Co-op have been an important part of my life, ever since I was a student at Co-op Academy Manchester. As a student, I learned about Co-op’s values and principles, and saw first-hand how they helped to support our local community. A few years later, when I saw the opportunity to continue my journey with Co-op as a Buying & Merchandising apprentice, I jumped at the chance to apply.
The best route toward my future career
I knew that an apprenticeship was the best route toward my future career because provides me with the perfect balance of academic study, hands-on experience, and the support I need to put my learning into practice. I typically spend around 20% of my time each week on the theoretical aspects of the programme and dedicate the rest toward my role as a Buying Assistant.
I’m really enjoying my time as an apprentice at Co-op, and I’ve already gained so many amazing skills that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life. No two days are the same, and I’ve been able to challenge myself in a way that the traditional academic route, couldn’t. From meeting key partners, visiting suppliers, and seeing how our products make it onto shelves, there’s been so many opportunities to broaden my knowledge of Co-op and our supply chain.
A place that really cares about my development
My team is so supportive, and I’ve always felt valued and appreciated. They’ve always welcomed any questions I’ve had and provided guidance whenever I’ve needed it. It’s so encouraging to be surrounded by people who care deeply about my development, and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring!
If you’re thinking about applying for an apprenticeship, my advice is to go for it! You’ll be amazed at the level of mentorship and depth of knowledge that you receive, and there’s so many learning opportunities available within each programme.
