I’ve wanted to work in the Funeralcare industry from the age of 13.

The Co-op conducted my Nana’s funeral when I was 13 and I was blown away by the kindness of the Funeral Director and the level of attention and care they showed to my Nana and our family. When I left school at 16, I applied for various Funeralcare roles but kept being told I needed to gain more life experience first.

I searched the internet for “how to gain life experience” and found an ad saying, “Be the best, join the army”. So, I signed up. I was a driver in the Royal Logistics Corps based in Oxfordshire and learnt many skills whilst serving. We were all taught how to stay calm and professional under pressure, the importance of teamwork and how to get on with different personalities. Useful skills that are valuable in so many jobs, including Funeralcare. Without this military experience, I don’t think I would be where I am today. It turned me from the boy I was into the man I am now.

At the age of 23, I got my first role in Funeralcare. I’ve been in the industry for almost 10 years now and it’s everything I hoped it would be and more.
