Time for a change

After a year of working as a Team Leader in various Co-op stores across Greater Manchester, I was keen to see what kind of opportunities were available outside my role. While I did enjoy the time I spent in Co-op’s stores, a 9-to-5 with regular hours was a better fit for me and my lifestyle. I signed up to receive job alerts on the Co-op website, and it wasn’t long before I received an email about a Recruitment Administrator role. I’d worked in recruitment before, and I thought I’d be a natural fit for the role, so I decided to apply.

The storm before the calm

I joined Co-op’s Resourcing Team in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic. I was nervous at first, and I was worried about the challenges I might face because of all the unrest and uncertainty caused by the virus. But I found my feet in no time, and as soon as my foot was in the door, I was welcomed by friendly faces. My team was always ready to help if I needed a little extra support, and my team leader was really encouraging, too.

Learning and growing

When I first started, there was a big emphasis on helping me grow my knowledge of Co-op as a whole. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes, and Co-op puts a lot of effort into team building. As an ex-Team Leader myself, I know how important it is to have the right people in the right place. One person can make a huge impact. I’m currently working in the Logistics Team, recruiting colleagues for Co-op depots up and down the country. It’s been interesting to learn more about how supply chains work, and I love seeing candidates go through the recruitment process from start to finish. Most of all, though, I’ve enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. I can’t recommend Co-op enough.
