Senior Software Quality Coach
£54,035 plus excellent benefits (Work Level 5)
Manchester city centre
This is a remote first role. Those living close to Manchester will also have the option to work in the office if desired.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Quality Coach to join us at Co-op as we grow our Engineering team in 2022. You’ll join a community of Quality Coaches, Front End, Software, and Platform Engineers who work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary, Agile teams to build products, services, and platforms that make a huge impact on the communities we live in. The systems we work on range from cloud-based services, through apps for customers and for colleagues, to tills in stores and apps used by colleagues in our funeral homes.

Building a quality service is a shared responsibility across the whole product team and is embedded right from the start. As a Senior Software Quality Coach, you’ll have an important role to play in holding up a mirror to what’s produced, making sure the different teams you support have feedback at the right time about the quality and viability of the service being delivered.

Although in-depth knowledge of testing techniques is important, this isn’t a traditional “testing” role, as the focus is on enabling others to build-in quality before any code is written – rather than find problems afterwards. So, if you’re someone who’s excited about fulfilling user needs and love collaborating with others, we can offer you an opportunity to grow your career and learn from industry experts in a business that’s using digital to make a difference.

What you’ll do

•    make sure the whole team builds quality in from the start and validate this with appropriate testing
•    work across teams to capture requirements, define acceptance criteria and guide the creation of tests
•    work in an Agile way, such as supporting incremental delivery, rapid iteration, and continuous feedback gathering
•    support colleagues across multiple teams with questions on what, when and how to test
•    perform exploratory and non-functional testing during the implementation cycle
•    act as the quality governance route between the team and external stakeholders
•    lead others to build great quality software by bringing the latest thinking in testing approaches, and sharing this knowledge in our community of practice

This role would suit people who have

•    previous experience building quality across multiple team’s processes and practices
•    experience with (and a desire to work using) Agile practices e.g. Kanban, XP, Scrum, Continuous Delivery
•    a collaborative approach and can work well within multi-disciplinary teams
•    experience of regression testing and advising conversion of acceptance criteria into workable tests
•    a track record of well-judged exploratory testing
•    the ability to refine requirements and define acceptance criteria
•    outstanding attention to detail with great verbal and written communication skills
•    a strong familiarity with web technologies
•    the passion to share your knowledge with others and continue learning
