What you'll do
We have a team of member pioneers working in the heart of their communities. As local people, they’re better placed to connect with their neighbours – and to understand what needs to happen to make a real difference. However, they still need guidance and leadership. As a member pioneer coordinator, you will manage a group of member pioneers and coach them on how to engage with their communities more effectively. You’ll educate them on the kind of activities, events and communications that will work in their different areas. As well as the social issues Co-op is focused on tackling. But, most of all, you will motivate them to passionately promote our values, like equality and solidarity, making sure no one is ever left behind. It’s not idealistic. It’s what we do.
Home based covering Scarborough and North Yorkshire
We’re looking for member pioneer co-ordinator working 18 hours a week, who can inspire teams of member pioneers to bring people together and make great things happen. We want to get local people talking about what matters most in their communities. And by bringing together Co-op members, colleagues and local causes to find new ways to co-operate, we know we can make a real difference to people’s lives.
As a member pioneer co-ordinator you’ll lead a team of member pioneers: planning and co-ordinating activity in local communities near you. We’ll look to you to make sure everything they do contributes to our community mission and objectives, ensuring we make the biggest impact possible across the UK by increasing co-operation. What you’ll do
inspire a team of member pioneers to deliver work that makes a difference
provide coaching, development, guidance and troubleshooting to your team
connect Co-op colleagues and businesses and help to build relationships with field teams
organise and help to chair Co-op local forums, in your team
organise and deliver a small number of community engagement events
develop and support pioneers in delivering local community plans
curate local plans and connect them up to regional and national activity
report on the impact your team is making on local community wellbeing
communicate the work of pioneers and its impact on communities using social media
track and help manage your teams activity budget
This role would suit someone who has
great organisational skills with some experience of leading or coordinating a team
the ability to coach people and coordinate the activity of a team across different communities
good basic tech skills (the ability to use a range of devices and social media channels)
an inspirational and motivational communication style
an understanding of our Co-op values and a genuine desire to make a difference
the flexibility to work remotely across your area, travelling occasionally and attending meetings at times that suit your communities (you’ll need a driving licence)

Online assessment As part of your application you’ll need to complete an online assessment which will measure how well your behaviours, values and motivations match up to this role and our overall Co-op culture. It will take around 20 minutes to complete this assessment.
Phone call Once you’ve completed the assessment, if you’re successful and shortlisted for the next stage, you’ll get a phone call from one of our colleagues. We know how important it is for candidates to speak to a real person – to ask questions and be reassured of their application.
If you pass your online assessment and short phone call, you’ll be asked to come to one of our stores for an interview.
We’ll send you an email for you to choose a date and time for your interview online – but if you can’t make it, don’t worry, you can provide the Hiring Manager times of when’s best for you. Before your interview, we’ll send you a really helpful guide on how best to prepare, so nothing on the day should surprise you, and most importantly what proof you need to bring to prove your right to work in the UK.
Your decision If you’re successful at your interview, you’ll receive a phone call from the hiring manager you met to talk about your job offer. If you accept, we’ll then send your offer online via an email. Before anything can be processed, we'll need you to accept this offer online. This will start your journey into our Co-op.
