We’re looking for a transport planner to join our Birtley depot team. You’ll be responsible for creating transport plans for 7 of our depots across the UK - scheduling the delivery of goods to stores and planning delivery routes for our drivers. It’ll be up to you to help make sure our products arrive on time at their destinations, and that store deliveries are as efficient and cost effective as possible.
Logistics at the Co-op is a diverse 24/7 operation, with thousands of moving parts that all need to work in perfect harmony so that we can expertly provide our customers with the products they love. As a transport planner with us, you’ll have an important role to play in one of the largest and most complex logistics networks in convenience retail. We’ll look to you to develop cost-effective store delivery schedules that’ll drive the future of the Co-op's retail transport operation – and your career within it.
What you’ll do
•produce daily delivery schedules created using the Paragon software system
•analyse delivery schedules produced by Paragon to give them a human touch, continuously looking for ways to make them as efficient as possible for our drivers
•provide daily plans to depot manager, dealing with any queries and responding reactively to any problems such as accidents and traffic
•deal with long-term issues and forward plan in case of any issues
•develop positive working relationships with key partners across our depots and transport teams, conducting occasional visit to our depots
This role will suit people who have
•some level of transport/logistics experience (any transport planning experience would be a bonus)
•strong basic IT skills and a naturally analytical mind (previous experience of transport planning software would be preferable)
•a ‘can-do’ attitude with the ability to think on your feet
•amazing relationship building skills, and the ability to work well as part of a team and on your own
•the ability to analyse and summarise data drawing out key messages for managers and colleagues to use and aid decision making
•excellent attention to detail and a logical mind
•the ability to effectively manage your own workload to tight deadlines, and to handle conflicting and changing priorities
•experience of working in a supply chain function would be advantageous
