Co-op is different to other retailers – we care about our members, customers, colleagues, and communities. Since joining the Co-op as a Customer Team Member in 2016, I’ve had loads of opportunities to make a difference in the community and to progress my career. I’m proud to now lead my own team as a Store Manager. 

My team is the most important part of my role. One of our Co-op values is to succeed together. The success of a store is down to the teams driving that success. There is no greater achievement than succeeding together and celebrating together. As a manager, engaging with my team by being an enthusiastic leader, and motivating and supporting them is a key part of my role.  It is so important to build strong and trustworthy relationships with colleagues, for it to be a safe, warm environment, with great morale.   

At the heart of the community  

feel at the heart of the community in my role. My favourite part of the year is when we payout to local causes through our Co-op community fund on celebration day. Last year we paid out over 17 million to over 4000 causes. To be able to see the difference this made in my local community was heart-warming, I was so proud of my team, and my community. 

I’m proud of what I have achieved in such a small space of time during my career at Co-op. I completed a level 3 retail leader qualification with a distinction, which involved a mix of on and off the job learning. And I plan to continue my development this year by enrolling in the level 5 degree apprenticeship. 

Aside from my day to day role, I’m really proud to lead the Co-op Aspire colleague network for my area. The aim of the network is to raise awareness about the struggles women face every day in the workplace, such as fair maternity rights, equal career opportunities, and much more. We promote diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities across the country within Co-op.  It is a pleasure to help support my colleagues and community every day.
