Who we are
The Community team includes colleagues responsible for managing our Local Community Fund, our Co-op Academy schools, and 1,000 Member Pioneers embedded in local communities across the UK.
As a team we help communities come together, co-operate and have a positive impact on community wellbeing – both physically and virtually.
We’re a collaborative team, who take collective responsibility for the quality and delivery of projects. We’re always working on multiple projects and programmes simultaneously, often with tight timelines for delivery. So we have a big focus on strong project management, and we work in an agile way to make sure things get done.
What we do
The Community team is responsible for developing and delivering a community strategy aligned to the Co-op vision of ‘Co-operating for a fairer world’. We work collaboratively to manage community funds; engage with the wider Co-op movement, and manage our Local Community and Community Partnerships funds, to make sure money donated by Co-op members has the greatest potential impact in communities across the UK.
The team is based in our head office at 1 Angel Square, Manchester, and we focus exclusively on activity which contributes to our vision. We work closely with other teams from across the business, developing programmes, and making best use of our channels to talk about the Co-op difference and support our membership proposition.
Member Pioneers and Member Pioneer Co-ordinators are part time colleagues who work together with local people and causes to make a difference locally. Find out more about how our member pioneers can be the spark that makes great things happen in communities across the UK.
Who we look for
We’re looking for natural co-operators – people who understand that working together makes things better. An affinity with our Co-op values of self-help; self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity are also essential for those who want to join us.
We’re always looking for Member Pioneers in locations all around the UK. But we also recruit new colleagues for jobs in community partnerships, governance, engagement and projects, as well as roles which support the administration of our Co-op Academies.
As well as the many skillsets needed to fulfil these roles, we also need to bring in people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives in order to achieve our goals. We’re committed to building an inclusive Community team, and we recognise the need for our teams to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.
