My journey with Co-op started earlier this year after I realised that university wasn’t the route for me. I knew an apprenticeship would provide the kind of training, hands-on learning, and environment that I was looking for instead. I’ve always had a passion for driving, and the opportunity to join Co-op as an LGV Driver apprentice was too good to pass up!
I feel like I’m part of something at Co-op
When I walked in on my first day, I immediately felt like I was welcome in the team and valued as an individual. It was clear that Co-op is a place where you’re more than ‘just an employee’ – it’s a place where your opinions and contributions matter, and somewhere that really cares about your personal success and wellbeing.
The LGV Driver apprenticeship takes 15 months to complete. I dedicate 20% of my time to more structured learning. The rest of the time is spent learning from expert trainers and mentors, who are helping to guide me on my way to becoming a fully qualified Class 1 LGV Driver. One of my favourite things about my time on the apprenticeship so far is how I’ve been given insights into the other areas of Co-op, allowing me to feel more aware of how my role fits in with Co-op’s other business areas.
Everyone has been so helpful - always willing to do anything they can to help support me through anything I’ve found slightly difficult or challenging. I really feel they care about my success. The amount of time they invest in you as an individual is really valuable and encouraging.
A place where you can make real career progress
My advice for anyone considering a Co-op apprenticeship would be to jump at the opportunity – without question! Even though my time here has been relatively short, the support and encouragement I’ve received from my colleagues and coaches is something that I’ve never experienced in a role before. You’re made to feel welcome and valued instantly, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds.
