Work experience placements can be good not only for the student but can enrich the business too

For one week in August fifteen year old Anna, along with 17 of her schoolmates from the Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent, made the 40 minute train journey each day to the Co-op offices in Manchester. Anna’s classmates spent time in a range of departments including logistics, retail and Funeralcare whilst Anna spent the week in the Insurance Learning and Development team.

During the week Anna spent time attending contact centre classroom training and academy sessions alongside trainee advisors, spent time listening to customer claims calls and reviewed the management induction programme materials. She also worked on a live project coming up with ideas on how to promote the upcoming Learnfest week in September to colleagues and this played to Anna’s creative strengths and her ambition to study film production at university.

Anna came up with new, fresh and creative ideas. She asked open questions and showed us new ways of thinking, giving a new viewpoint and some great ideas which I’ll be looking at developing in the next few weeks.
